Once part of the Gila (HEE-la) Apache Indian Reservation which was established in 1853, more than 100 years ago the US Government opened New Mexico Territory up for homesteading. After the Civil War, Horace Hooker migrated from the east coast with the dream of building his own ranch. The Hooker Family did indeed find their dream in southwestern New Mexico, in the peaceful Gila Valley and Bear Creek Basin of Grant County, New Mexico. In 1996, Debbie and Alan Eggleston decided to "retire" and purchased 30,000 acres from the Hooker Family, renaming this spectacular property "Double E Ranch". Situated along the southwestern edge of the 3.3 million acre Gila (HEE-la) Wilderness, the Double E Ranch proudly boasts some of the best and most exciting horseback riding in the southwest as well as some of the most spectacular scenery! Just 30 miles northwest of historic Silver City, Double E Ranch is the home of Billy the Kid and Geronimo.
Raising horses
suitable for the rugged, unforgiving terrain of southwestern New Mexico,
Alan works the ranch entirely from horseback and prefers
Driftwood
and Doc O'Lena bloodlines.
Driftwood
consistently produces horses with good minds, good bone, willing
attitudes, strength and athleticism, and the comfortable build necessary to
cover many ranch miles, regularly.
While breeding is an
important consideration, we also offer imported Mexican Mustangs which
have been crossed with performance Quarter Horse stallions to produce strong,
reliable mounts, possessing the qualities we insist on. Training and

While breeding is an important consideration, we also offer imported Mexican Mustangs which have been crossed with performance Quarter Horse stallions to produce strong, reliable mounts, possessing the qualities we insist on. Training and selling some of the finest shooting horses, trail horses, ranch and rope horses in the southwest is what we do. The cowboy mounted shooting horses we offer for sale are at various levels of finishing, most are ready for you to compete on - now! Alan Eggleston, owner of the Double E Ranch and RanchGeldings.Com, selects these horses himself. He searches for horses with good minds, superior athletic ability, agility, speed, and willingness to please. Alan loves the sport of cowboy mounted shooting and finds it a real pleasure competing on a horse with these qualities. He takes pride in all the horses he trains, whether they are his personal shooting mounts or the ones he sells to you. When buying a shooting horse, he's happy to spend as much time as you need or want to spend helping you learn, improve or refine your skills with your newly purchased shooting partner. Some of Alan's accomplishments include:
RJ Hobbs,
a longtime New Mexico resident and
exceptional horseman, is currently a Class 2 shooter and
assists with the conditioning and
training of horses at
Double E Ranch. RJ loves the
thrill of mounted shooting competition, and enjoys
the challenge of preparing a horse for
its first shoot. RJ believes he was
born in the wrong century...we think so,
too!
Whether you're looking for a shooting
